El Gouna Golf Tournament 2021

Last year, 2020, we were deprived of a golf tournament in El Gouna at the last minute due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, as the world is slowly starting to get a grip on things and borders are opening, we’re seeing are seeing more tourists in El Gouna. This means that we can now enjoy a golf tournament here in El Gouna once more.

Although there are 2 golf courses in El Gouna, one in Ancient Sands and one at the Steigenberger golf resort, this tournament will take place solely at the Steigenberger course. 18 holes of lush green grass surrounded by sea lagoon waterways, the course is world standard. Coupled with this is the weather. Egypt gets very hot in the summer and golf is, therefore, a winter sport here. But the change of seasons makes for perfect weather all round – especially for golf. Not too hot, not cold, and the wind calms a little, the settings are perfect.

Dates

4- 6 November 2021.

4 November will be a practice day, with players practicing on the driving range and possibly a practice round on the course. 5 November will start the tournament, 18 holes per day for 2 days, and a prize-giving ceremony on 6 November.

Prices

To watch is free but to compete with a cost of 1500 EGP (1000 EGP for El Gouna residents).

Rules of play

Tees: All men will play from the YELLOW markers while the ladies will play from the RED marker.

HCP: Maximum -28 (players with HCP over -28 will play off -28)

Format: Single Stableford 36 Holes (For pace of play, if a player cannot score, please pick up and move to the next tee.

Distance in Markers: (measured in meters to the front of the green)

•  White – 100m
• Red – 150m
• Yellow – 200m
• Blue – 250m

Pin Positions:

• Red flag – front of gree
• White flag – Middle of gree
• Yellow flag – Back of green

Universal Rules:

Held under the auspices of the Egyptian Golf Federation, and under the rules of golf according to the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, and local rules of El Gouna Golf govern play. Any decisions handed down by the tournament Committee are final.  Laser yardage is allowed.

Playing out of plantings

Free drop within 2 club lengths – not nearer the hole

Out of Bounds:

Public streets around the course.

On or over the line of the white marker posts.

Immovable Obstructions:

• All on course buildings
• All artificially surfaced roads and paths
• Irrigation pipes at the base of trees

Tie:

In the event of a tie, there will be a card play-off over the back holes.

Carts:

Carts must be kept on paths around the tees and greens. All par 3 holes, carts must be kept on the path for the entire duration of the hole.

• 1st, 2nd and 3rd Net Category A
• 1st, 2nd and 3rd Net Category B
• Longest Drive (Men only Hole #2)
• Longest Drive (Ladies only Hole #10)
• Nearest to pin (Men only – Hole #5)
• Nearest to pin (Women only – Hole #3)

Time / Pace of play:

The time par expectation for all groups is to finish their round in 4 hours and 5 minutes (4:05).
